About Education Day

Education Day is a unique element of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in which authors hold free sessions for schoolchildren and university students from across the UAE. The first Education Day in 2009 proved so popular – with author events in more than 60 UAE Schools – that in 2010 we were forced to up our game, holding a number of special talks at the Dubai Scientific and Cultural Association in Al Mamzar so that more children than ever could see and hear the authors in action – more than 4,000 students in total, of all ages.

The principle behind Education Day is that coming face-to-face with authors fuels a lifelong love of words in children, inspiring them to embrace reading and writing. What we have also discovered is that the authors themselves – particularly those not used to addressing schoolchildren – find it an educational experience as well!
